- Training begins at the beginner/developmental level. Basic synchro skills such as counting music, sculling, beginning figures and land drilling are taught. The philosophy of teamwork is introduced. It is the start of a solid foundation that could take a swimmer all the way up to the collegiate and/or Olympic level.
- As the swimmer's skills improve, more complex figures and routines are introduced. Moderate cross training in areas such as gymnastics and flexibility are brought into the training spectrum.
- At the elite levels, the all-encompassing training includes sports psychology, plyometrics, yoga, pilates, ballet, and nutrition. This level of swimmer is typically preparing for Olympic training.
Our coaching staff is the foundation of our competitive success as a team. United States Synchronized Swimming Olympic coach for 1996, 2000 and 2004 and the Santa Clara Aquamaids Head Coach, Chris Carver sets the standard for excellence. Chris Carver has led the Aquamaids to 15 National Titles, has been a USOC Coach of the Year for four consecutive years and a synchronized swimming Hall of Fame contributor, and she continues to be a world-renowned coach and choreographer. Our coaching staff is comprised of former Olympians and World and National Champions. Ongoing coaching education keeps our staff on the cutting edge of world class competitive athletics.
Aquamaid swimmers embody what it means to pursue excellence. The Aquamaids program has placed 22 athletes on Olympic Teams, more than any other synchronized swimming club in the nation. Every year the club places athletes on U.S. National Teams at the 11-12, 13-15, Junior, and Senior level. Aquamaid swimmers often go on to swim at or attend top-rated colleges and universities and to develop successful careers. Joining the Aquamaids means joining a unique and committed family of athletes.
